Book Review - The Inn Keeper's Wife

About the Book
The Innkeeper's Wife is a story that came as a vision to the author. Follow her as she imagines what it must have been like inside the inn with no room. Christ was born that night as a homeless child. Someone took his family in.

My Take on the Book
Many of you are familiar with the Biblical story of the birth of Jesus, in the stable, in Bethlehem, so long ago. Have you ever wondered while celebrating this event and Christmas, what it would have been like to be present at this historical birth?

Muriel Drake Ryan has written a story from the viewpoint of the wife of the Innkeeper. Aaron and Hannah owned the inn and of course because of the census there were many travelers who needed a place to sleep. Hannah was upset that Aaron allowed Mary and Joseph to stay in the stable. Her attitude changes as the story progresses.

Ryan does a good job of bringing to life the attitudes, feelings and actions of the characters. You will see reluctance, fear, disbelief, and selfishness. However there is a transformation in Hannah as the visitors who are seeking Jesus arrive in Bethlehem. She begins to have faith, hope, trust, generosity , and pure joy.

I believe this story would be an excellent one to share with your family. If you already read the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus, may I encourage you to add this story to your Christmas library.
